Steel Roses - And All of Us
Jonathan’s songs have given me a lot of strength. The Hill, Late Marriage, Newly Composed Old Song etc., each made me think seriously about my own life, about people who love me and people I love, and reminded me of what I should do.
Among all the songs he was involved in creating, Steel Roses is my favorite. I believe that this song is not only for single women, but has a much more profound meaning. Whether its powerful drum beats, the freedom revealed in the lyrics, or Jonathan’s unbridled singing style, all of these demonstrate a kind of almost naive open-heartedness and determination, which is not only about the way women face intimate relationships, but also a person's attitude towards life.
“Just let her instinct express freely”, “she gives every shot with improvisation, and heartbreak doesn’t matter at all”. Facing the world, others, and oneself with sincerity and ease, facing happenings bravely, accepting the results of affairs and relationships - these are the things I read from the song that give me strength, and they are also what I want to share with you all.
In my opinion, the reason why Jonathan's songs are so inspiring is that they tell us that despite the pain brought about by human nature, there will still be the true feelings of ourselves and others that offer us comfort. Hence, for these precious and shining emotions, even if the road ahead is full of twists and uncertainties, we are still willing to carry our sincerity and open-heartedness and strive even harder to move forward.
Jonathan, happy birthday to you! And also happy birthday to me.
Whenever I hear your songs, I feel an immediate connection. When I realized that our birthdays were on the same day, I truly felt a sense of gift of fate. Thank you for writing so many wonderful lyrics and songs. They allow us to see ourselves and the truly precious things in life through your music!
